Real Superhero’s Saving Lives and Standing Up For The Voiceless
Dr. T. Colin Campbell
Dr. Campbell studied biochemistry at MIT and Cornell University. He stayed at Cornell and became a professor, he is still the head of the nutritional biochemistry department at Cornell. He has been given 70 grants for research. In Real Foods when we read the China Study about Dr. T. Colin Campbell’s work on how different parts of the world get protein. He discovered that places where people ate mostly fruits, vegetables, nuts, a little meat, and no processed food; had almost no cancer, obesity, or heart disease, in the community. He called these blue zones. Where people lived an active lifestyle and consumed only 10% of their protein from animals. They lived till old age, and with very low risk of chronic disease. As opposed to in America where we get 80% of our protein from animals. And the animals that we eat are given unnatural products like antibiotics, candy, GMO corn and fertilizer runoff. Dr. Campbell wasn’t the first to find these blue zones but was the first to do real data testing on them. And compared them to our western diet. He is a big advocate for whole foods instead of quick fix medicine. In his lectures and Ted talks he always brings up how medical doctors are given no nutritional training during their time at school.

Dr. Neal Barnard
Dr. Bernard is the president and founder of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine. His research has led him to become an advocate for a plant based diet. He believes that the standard American diet is even more carcinogenic than smoking. He has sued the USDA multiple times for giving outdated information to the public regarding food. I highly recommend watching his speeches. He has been doing this for so long and has used science to disprove negative claims about a vegan diet. https://www.pcrm.org/about-us/staff/neal-barnard-md-facc

Dean Ornish, MD
Dr. Ornish has been one of the most influential plant based doctors whose data show indisputable evidence to the health benefits of plant based diets. For multiple chronic illnesses. He attended Harvard medical school. Was one of the first to discover how you can turn off cancer promoting genes by making the lifestyle choice to go plant based. He also discovered through tests that you can reverse coronary heart disease without pharmaceuticals or surgery, but by making the plant based lifestyle choice. Dr. Ornish is the founder and president of the nonprofit Preventive Medicine Research Institute in Sausalito, Calif. His website is https://www.ornish.com/ and in big letters on the homepage he has “LOVE YOUR LIFE.” Amazing guy who’s actually saving the world.

William Li M.D.
Dr. Li is a “world renown physician,” molecular biologist, scientist, speaker, and director of the Angiogenesis Foundation. He has had some amazing discoveries regarding how the chemicals in food react to our bodies. And he is also passionate about sharing what he has learned about the microbiome, even though that is not his field of expertise. In a lecture he gave at Santara Institute he goes over five things and how they are all affected by how we eat, and that work together like the branches of the military. I haven’t read his book but I wanted to add this in and the link to this talk will be below. He also says our bodies are built like medieval castles. To introduce this idea that these five different systems work together to defend the castle, our body and its citizens, our microbes.
Dr. Li talks about how we can improve all these things below, with natural foods.
Androgenesis: Regeneration of blood cells and vessels. Simmered tomatoes, olives, fruit peels. Mediterranean diet.
Stem Cells: Regeneration of cells: Intermittent fasting. Mediterranean diet. Food for stem cell regeneration he offers: blueberries, collard greens, dark chocolate, goji berries, green tea, mangos, pistachios, turmeric and a few more. Bad for stem cells: high fat diet. High salt diet.
Microbiome: He talks about two types of microbes and how they can affect our bodies. He addresses how studies on microbes can only be done on rats so we know very little about microbes in the scientific community. Says we are 50% human cells and 50% microbiome cells…And that we have at least 37 trillion microbes in our bodies. Also provides a list of chronic diseases that have been proven to be linked to an unbalanced microbiome.
He discusses how studies done in rats show that this could be a huge breakthrough in the medical field. He theorizes that lactobacillus can help hosts control weight, improve sleep, and fight disease. And provides foods that have lactobacillus: kimchi, sauerkraut, poi cia, kiwi. lactobacillus reuteri: sourdough bread. He says the lactobacillus reuteri has been shown to fight breast cancer. Also that mothers give lactobacillus reuteri to babies right before they are born.
-Firmicutes: poi cia, kimchi.
-Bifidobacterium: kimchi.
He says we could have a week long conference on the microbiome and still not even scratch the surface.
-DNA: “We have good and bad DNA.” Turmeric helps good DNA and blocks bad DNA.
-Immune System: lactobacillus has been shown to boost the immune system. Dr. Li shows picture from a Israeli research institute that indicates our immune cells are in constant communication with each other and with other cells in the body. Adding to his point that the immune system is working with other body systems to defend the body. Also says cancer cells can only grow if they can escape the immune system. Talks about immunotherapy which is about fixing the immune system to kill cancer cells instead of trying to kill cancer cells with chemo or other treatment. Talks about how Dr. Li’s mother and Jimmy Carter had cancer spreading but got immunotherapy transfusions and the cancer went away. But unfortunately Immunotherapy is extremely expensive. And he says it only shows powerful results if a patient has a certain microbe in the body before treatment and says the only way to grow back this sensitive bacteria is with pomegranate juice. Also shows studies that oysters and broccoli sprouts have compounds to fight cancer growth. And provides a study that shows that broccoli sprouts improved immune cells by 22% in one experiment.
He ends this talk with expressing his belief that disease prevention should not start when we get sick but instead by choosing to arm these body systems with foods that help them fight disease all the time. He offers a chart with 26 common foods that contain compounds that benefit all 5 systems he discusses. Some of them are blueberries, peaches, plums, apricots, nectarines, eggplant, kale, dark chocolate, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, walnuts.

William Davis M.D
Dr. Davis is a cardiologist, researcher, and author. I saw an amazing microbe related lecture he gave and needed to add him to the list of super doctors. On his website and books he focuses on eliminating wheat from the diet. I will summarize the lecture he gave at the Institute for Human & Machine Cognition. The link to the YouTube video will be below as well.
He starts off by addressing the extreme conditions the earth is in. Then makes a connection between the microbes by saying, “just like we are destroying our planet, we’re destroying our microbiome.” And that we are also destroying the diversity in the microbiome. And lists how this is happening.
-Antibiotics: Kills all microbes, good and bad.
-C-section: C-section babies don’t get mothers microbes.
-Emulsifying agents: Synthetic sweeteners.
-Drugs: Big pharma doesn’t test how drugs affect microbes. FDA doesn’t either.
-Chlorinated water: Drinking tap water
-Herbicides and pesticides: Toxic chemicals on plants.
Then he talks about what keystone species are. Plankton are keystone species because they affect all the other sea life around them. No plankton, then no fish, then no whale (plankton eat diatomaceous earth, So DE is the ultimate keystone species of life and yes they are alive). And he says this is the same with our microbiome. He offers the audience two keystone microbe species and how we can grow them back.
– bifidobacterium infantis
-lactobacillus reuteri
He says these microbes can help: “control weight, have smooth skin, reduce inflammation, make infants and kids healthier, reduce joint pain, recover faster, improve muscle strength, deep sleep and vivid dreams, bone density, promote happiness, improves immune response, accelerated healing, and age reversal.” He then talks about how you can make your own microbe yogurt that is way more potent than any probiotic pills. He also gives the companies he uses to buy microbes and they were EVCOO1. I haven’t tried this super yogurt.
