Dr. Li is a “world renown physician,” molecular biologist, scientist, speaker, and director of the Angiogenesis Foundation. He has had some amazing discoveries regarding how the chemicals in food react to our bodies. He is also passionate about sharing what he has learned about the microbiome, even though that is not his field of expertise. In a lecture he gave at Santara Institute, he goes over five key aspects of our health, and how they are all affected by how we eat. He says they work together like the branches of the military, to defend our body. He also compares our bodies medieval castles, and that these five different systems work together to defend the castle, our body and its citizens, our microbes.

Dr. Li talks about how we can improve all these things below, with natural foods.

Androgenesis:  Regeneration of blood cells and vessels. Simmered tomatoes, olives, fruit peels. Mediterranean diet.

Stem Cells: Regeneration of cells: Intermittent fasting. Mediterranean diet. Food for stem cell regeneration he offers: blueberries, collard greens, dark chocolate, goji berries, green tea, mangos, pistachios, turmeric and a few more. Bad for stem cells: high fat diet. High salt diet.

Microbiome: He talks about two types of microbes and how they can affect our bodies. He addresses how studies on microbes can only be done on rats so we know very little about microbes in the scientific community. Says we are 50% human cells and 50% microbiome cells…And that we have at least 37 trillion microbes in our bodies. Also provides a list of chronic diseases that have been proven to be linked to an unbalanced microbiome.

He discusses how studies done in rats show that this could be a huge breakthrough in the medical field. He theorizes that lactobacillus can help hosts control weight, improve sleep, and fight disease. Also provides foods that have lactobacillus: kimchi, sauerkraut, poi cia, kiwi. lactobacillus reuteri: sourdough bread. He says the lactobacillus reuteri has been shown to fight breast cancer. Also that mothers give lactobacillus reuteri to babies right before they are born.

-Firmicutes: poi cia, kimchi.

-Bifidobacterium: kimchi. kiwi,

He says we could have a week long conference on the microbiome and still not even scratch the surface.

-DNA: “We have good and bad DNA.” Turmeric helps good DNA and blocks bad DNA.

-Immune System: lactobacillus has been shown to boost the immune system. Dr. Li shows picture from a Israeli research institute that indicates our immune cells are in constant communication with each other and with other cells in the body. Adding to his point that the immune system is working with other body systems to defend the body. Also says cancer cells can only grow if they can escape the immune system. Talks about immunotherapy which is about fixing the immune system to kill cancer cells instead of trying to kill cancer cells with chemo or other treatment. Talks about how Dr. Li’s mother and Jimmy Carter had cancer spreading but got immunotherapy transfusions and the cancer went away. But unfortunately Immunotherapy is extremely expensive. He says it only shows powerful results if a patient has a certain microbe in the body before treatment and says the only way to grow back this sensitive bacteria is with pomegranate juice. Also shows studies that oysters and broccoli sprouts have compounds to fight cancer growth. He provides a study that shows that broccoli sprouts improved immune cells by 22% in one experiment.

He ends this talk with expressing his belief that disease prevention should not start when we get sick but instead by choosing to arm these body systems with foods that help them fight disease all the time. He offers a chart with 26 common foods that contain compounds that benefit all 5 systems he discusses. Some of them are blueberries, peaches, plums, apricots, nectarines, eggplant, kale, dark chocolate, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, walnuts.

William Davis M.D

Dr. Davis is a cardiologist, researcher, and author. I saw an amazing microbe related lecture he gave and needed to add him to the list of super doctors. On his website and books he focuses on eliminating wheat from the diet. I will summarize the lecture he gave at the Institute for Human & Machine Cognition. The link to the YouTube video will be below as well.

He starts off by addressing the extreme conditions the earth is in. Then makes a connection between the microbes by saying, “just like we are destroying our planet, we’re destroying our microbiome.” And that we are also destroying the diversity in the microbiome. Also lists how this is happening.

-Antibiotics: Kills all microbes, good and bad.

         -C-section: C-section babies don’t get mothers microbes.

         -Emulsifying agents: Synthetic sweeteners.

-Drugs: Big pharma doesn’t test how drugs affect microbes. FDA doesn’t either.

         -Chlorinated water: Drinking tap water

-Herbicides and pesticides: Toxic chemicals on plants.

Then he talks about what keystone species are. Plankton are keystone species because they affect all the other sea life around them. No plankton, then no fish, then no whale (plankton eat diatomaceous earth, So DE is the ultimate keystone species of life and yes they are alive). He says this is the same with our microbiome. He offers the audience two keystone microbe species and how we can grow them back.

         – bifidobacterium infantis

         -lactobacillus reuteri

He says these microbes can help: “control weight, have smooth skin, reduce inflammation, make infants and kids healthier, reduce joint pain, recover faster, improve muscle strength, deep sleep and vivid dreams, bone density, promote happiness, improves immune response, accelerated healing, and age reversal.” He then talks about how you can make your own microbe yogurt that is way more potent than any probiotic pills. He also gives the companies he uses to buy microbes and they were EVCOO1. I haven’t tried this super yogurt.

Dr. Christopher A. Lowry

Dr. Lowry is a neurochemist who specializes in depression, and PTSD. He was asked to help write a paper called “the American Gut Project.” When conducting a study to see if the variety of fruits and vegetables you eat has an effect on the gut; they asked people how many different fruits and vegetables they eat in a week. They discovered that those that ate 30 or more fruits and vegetables had a healthier microbiome and he even called it the ideal microbiome. This inspired him to try having 30 vegetables and fruits in a day. He uses a blender and saves a big jug and has a glass with dinner every night. After noticing changes in himself he has been a microbe enthusiast ever since. He also talks about how mammals have been burrowing in soil since Jurassic times, so we have evolved with “soil microbes.” He ends the talk by advising parents to let kids play in dirt, to strengthen microbiome and bring diversity. This is another doctor that seems to not understand the difference between parasites and microbes. Most of these “soil microbes” are deep in the soil, the wet surface soil is loaded with parasite larvae from compromised flies. Mammals have really been competing and evolving with parasites that consider humans hosts they can live off. (8, 9) Still it’s a great lecture and I highly recommend watching it. I just wouldn’t recommend letting children eat dirt. This also enforces how you do want to wash your hands because you don’t want unknown microbes getting in your body. When you eat an apple, you know you’re getting the microbes from the apple. When you open a door you don’t know what is on it. I would recommend washing your hands with organic soap, synthetic soaps are very harmful to skin microbes. Which I talk about in the non-food related secrets section.

Danielle Arseuault – Microbe Adventurer

Danielle is a microbe researcher. She learned everything she knows from exploring different parts of the world, learning what they eat and how they prepare food. Founder of Pachavega Living Foods Education, Danielle is a Raw Food Chef, Educator and Plant-based Nutrition Expert.

Danielle gave a very simple yet amazing Ted talk exposing natural super microbe foods from around the world. She starts off by saying imagine a world where all the information from all the ancient sages around the world for the past thousands of years could be learned and used. And follows up with, “that our world!” Ever since she was a little girl growing plants in schools and in her garden; the power of plants amazed her. Also that she’s been “listening” to her gut since she was little and started questioning how foods give us energy and affect us.

This made her very curious and she started her plant based exploration in Puerto Rico where she learned about sprouts and the raw foods plant based diet. Sprouts are eaten all over the world except Europe and America traditionally. She says sprouted legumes are a complete protein and are packed with vitamins and minerals. No super salad is complete without sprouts.

The second secret she found was in South Korea is seaweed and algae. She was shocked walking around the markets and seeing so many types of seaweed. Fish get omega 3’s because they eat algae. Algae and seaweed grow at an exponential rate when conditions are right and because of that is a cheap and healthy food. Algae and seaweed also have iodine.

The last secret she also learned in Korea was fermented raw foods like kimchi, miso, and sauerkraut. Fermented foods date back 12,000 years and were discovered to be used in India, South Africa, Spain, and all over Asia. She mentions these foods aren’t just packed with nutrients and fiber, but are full of probiotics. Which are healthy microbes. Fermenting foods exponentially grows the already present colonies of microbes in the vegetable or fruit being fermented. But cabbage has been the most popular fermented food in Asia. Especially Kora where they have a tradition of taking a day off work to prepare a year’s worth of kimchi. Kimchi is fermented cabbage and spices.

These expert doctors don’t really have any tangible information, just a bunch of facts and a confusing message. Danielle’s talk is filled with information and practical knowledge that’s easy to understand.
